Located a few steps from the old location. This new space features a spacious layout on two floors and a large private garden and courtyard, in the tradition of the city’s urban, outdoor lifestyle. The result is a lively, colorful and contemporary expression of the house’s codes, in dialogue with the vitality of the seaside town, its proximity to nature and its marked Catalan Art Nouveau architecture: a wonderful setting that testifies to Hermès’ deep roots in the region and its attachment to local customers.
Located in a stately residence of the late nineteenth century.
The store, designed by the Parisian architecture agency
RDAI
is framed by an elegant lime and sand stucco façade, faithfully restored with decorative finishes. The first floor presents two halls with generous volumes and high ceilings connected by a long gallery. Evoking the organic, sculptural forms of Catalan modernism in the tradition of Antoni Gaudi, the store’s sand-colored stucco walls and white ceilings are drawn in undulating, curving lines that create a sense of flow from front to back. Underfoot, the tiling is also enlivened with a wavy effect in gradient blue tones. From all perspectives, the green garden, designed by the Catalan landscaping company Local4, remains in full view.
The meeting with the sixteen métiers of the house begins at the entrance:
The focus shifts from the women’s silk collection, animated with bright colors, to the perfume and beauty métier and accessories. On the right, an array of accessories from the men’s universe guides the visitor through the gallery, passing through the home collections to an intimate jewelry and watchmaking corner. On either side of the rear lounge, with floor-to-ceiling windows, are the male and female universes, each with fitting rooms decorated like cozy, colorful cocoons. In the center, leather goods are displayed in custom-made cherry wood cabinets equipped with reflective panels that enhance the brightness of this sun-drenched space. From here, doors open onto the furnished patio, surrounded by fragrant gardens planted with local flora, such as citrus and Mediterranean pines, as well as jacarandas, magnolias and bright bougainvillea.
From the moment they arrive, visitors will be captivated by an extravagant palette that dances between Mediterranean shades of azure blue and sea green with touches of vibrant orange and electric pink. Color is used to delineate each space, such as bright blue lacquered cabinets displaying jewelry and watches and a striking array of hand-woven mohair rugs in swirls of ombré colors that frame the men’s and women’s ready-to-wear universes. Touches of color, in the form of bright enameled tables, set the scene with a cheerful and eccentric touch. Visitors will appreciate the vocabulary of the house throughout the decoration: the emblematic ex-libris and Grecques lighting at the entrance, as well as the Faubourg mosaic in midnight blue tones with blood orange cabochons and on a larger scale to highlight a graphic play.
The interplay between past and present is enhanced by decorative elements that highlight the imagination and craftsmanship of the modernist era.
Upstairs, the private lounge features precious details of the original layout, which were preserved during the renovation and reinstalled in this second floor gallery. Among them are the original stained glass windows of the famous modernist glassmaker Antoni Rigalt i Blanch, depicting an evocative and flowery Japanese-style scene. Here, in three separate spaces, Nolla’s original ceramic mosaics have been reinstalled on the floors. The addition of cozy sofas and carved wood sliding doors make this space unique and private.
Throughout the store, a selection of contemporary artworks.
This selection includes oceanic prints by Canadian photographer Amy Friend and geometric pop works by Irish colorist Richard Gorman, mixed with pieces from the Émile Hermès collection that embody the house’s long-standing artistic spirit. For the inauguration, the theme of joy was interpreted by French artist Nathalie Junod Ponsard in a commissioned work, “Songe Solaire”, a luminous nighttime chromatic work installed in the bow window overlooking the street.
Hermès looks forward to welcoming local customers and new visitors inside this unique store, which brings together the vibrant history and lifestyle of Barcelona with the creativity and fine craftsmanship of the Parisian house.
