The House of Suntory has announced the arrival in Spain of Yamazaki 25 Years Mizunara, a single malt that represents the distillery’s oldest expression matured exclusively in Mizunara oak casks. This limited edition consolidates the importance of a material that has been part of the house’s heritage since the mid-20th century and is distinguished by the complexity of its character after long periods of maturation.
Mizunara oak, introduced at Yamazaki in the 1940s, requires technical knowledge and specific craftsmanship due to its delicate nature and difficulty to work with. The wood gradually reveals its personality over the years, offering aromatic nuances of sandalwood, coconut and incense, now considered one of Suntory’s most valued hallmarks. The distillery emphasises that, in the case of this new release, the whisky develops a spicy and bittersweet structure with notes of ripe fruit, spices and a long finish with a marked presence of wood.
Unlike previous editions, which included partial maturation in Mizunara, this 25-year-old version is made entirely in Mizunara oak. Each bottle is delivered in a handcrafted case assembled using traditional Japanese techniques without nails, in line with the company’s philosophy of respect for detail and tradition.
Bottled at 48% ABV, Yamazaki 25 Years Mizunara will be sold in Spain at a reference price of €5,850. The domestic market will have a quota of 34 bottles, intended for collectors and lovers of Japanese whisky. In addition, the product meets the criteria established by the Japan Spirits & Liqueurs Makers Association, which guarantees its authenticity as Japanese whisky: distilled, matured and bottled entirely in Japan.
The launch was presented at private meetings with customers in Barcelona and Madrid, which took place on 18 and 22 September, respectively. These events are part of the brand’s strategy to bring its most exclusive editions to a specialised audience in the high-end spirits sector.
The House of Suntory, recognised as a pioneer of Japanese whisky since the founding of the Yamazaki distillery in 1923, celebrates a new chapter in its legacy with this limited edition. With a century of history and international distinctions that attest to its track record, the company maintains a portfolio that includes iconic labels such as Yamazaki, Hakushu and Hibiki, as well as spirits such as Roku Gin and Haku Vodka.
