As part of Watches & Wonders Geneva 2026, held from 14 to 20 April, Vacheron Constantin has unveiled La Quête du Temps, an exhibition that transcends the realm of watchmaking to explore the worlds of fine craftsmanship, technical innovation and the cultural expression of time. The exhibition brings together, for the first time in Switzerland, five exceptional creations that embody the maison’s vision: a constant quest for perfection where mechanical precision and aesthetic beauty converge naturally.
At the heart of this presentation lies La Quête du Temps, an astronomical automaton watch conceived to commemorate the brand’s 270th anniversary. Following its display at the Louvre Museum in 2025, the piece is now on show in Geneva as one of the most ambitious achievements in contemporary haute horlogerie. The result of seven years of research and development, this extraordinary device incorporates 22 complications into a structure comprising over 6,200 components, forming a mechanism that not only measures time but interprets it through an animated and musical choreography.
The piece embodies a unique synthesis of science, art and philosophy, in which every display—from astronomical cycles to the measurement of time—becomes a tangible manifestation of the relationship between humankind and the universe. Beyond its technical complexity, its aesthetics reveal an extreme attention to detail, reflecting the savoir-faire accumulated by the Manufacture over more than two and a half centuries of history.
Alongside this centrepiece, the exhibition presents the Métiers d’art – Tribute to the Quest of Time, a contemporary reinterpretation of the great watchmaking complications. This model combines bi-retrograde hour and minute displays with three-dimensional moon phases and representations of the firmament that evolve according to sidereal time, thus integrating a poetic dimension into the measurement of time.
The collection is expanded with three timepieces that have marked milestones in the recent history of watchmaking. The 57260, developed to mark the maison’s 260th anniversary, set a world record in 2015 with its 57 complications, including the first perpetual Hebrew calendar ever integrated into a watch. Adding to this achievement is the Berkley Grand Complication, unveiled in 2024, which raised the bar even higher with 63 complications and the incorporation of a Chinese perpetual calendar, the result of eleven years of technical development.
For its part, the Solaria Ultra Grand Complication – La Première, launched in 2025, sets a new benchmark in wristwatchmaking. With 41 complications and numerous patented innovations, this timepiece brings together an unprecedented combination of astronomical functions, establishing itself as one of the most advanced developments ever produced in this format.
Beyond a display of technical prowess, La Quête du Temps offers a broader reflection on the nature of time and its representation.
