The Costa Smeralda shone brightly last week when the 52 Super Series, the world’s most prestigious monohull regatta, stopped off in Porto Cervo to celebrate its grand season finale. For six intense days, the most exclusive part of the Mediterranean witnessed a unique spectacle, with the best teams in international sailing, cutting-edge boats and shipowners representing the elite of nautical luxury competing.
Founded in the 1960s by the Aga Khan, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda once again proved itself to be an exceptional host. Its world-class facilities, seafaring tradition and unrivalled setting — surrounded by iconic hotels, high-end boutiques and the unmistakable magic of Sardinia — made Porto Cervo the perfect backdrop for an event that transcended sport and became a social and cultural happening of the first order.
The 52 Super Series once again brought together America’s Cup champions, Olympic medallists and Ocean Race winners, forming a circuit that is undoubtedly the true ‘who’s who’ of contemporary sailing. The owners, with their passion and vision, propelled boats that are true gems of engineering and design, symbols of innovation and sophistication. In this context, achieving victory in Porto Cervo was much more than a simple sporting triumph: it became a mark of prestige engraved in the history of world sailing.
In this edition, the grand finale of the Porto Cervo Range Rover Regatta crowned Takashi Okura’s Sled as the winner of the regatta in Sardinian waters, while the title of overall champion of the 2025 season went to American Magic / Quantum Racing, led by Doug DeVos. A thrilling conclusion that reinforces the importance of the Porto Cervo Range Rover Regatta as the cathedral of sailing.
After the Sardinian waters event, the 2026 season will turn its focus to Spain, which will take centre stage with several decisive regattas. Puerto Portals, in Mallorca, will open the calendar in May, marking the start of a year that promises plenty of excitement. The competition will then move on to Porto Cervo, in Sardinia, make a double stop in Lanzarote during July and August, and conclude in October in Valencia, consolidating the Mediterranean as the undisputed epicentre of top-level sailing.
With this route, the 52 Super Series will reaffirm its role as a global showcase for high-level competitive sailing. And at the heart of this map, Porto Cervo has once again confirmed its unique magnetism, where sport, luxury and the Mediterranean lifestyle intertwine in a unique spectacle.
