Palma de Mallorca is cementing its position on the international art scene with the launch of Art Cologne

The inaugural edition brings together 88 galleries from 20 countries and attracts European and American collectors to a venue with a global reach

Palma de Mallorca has hosted the first edition of Art Cologne Palma Mallorca, an event that has put the island on the international map of contemporary art and collecting. The event, held from 9 to 12 April at the Palau de Congressos, brought together 88 galleries from 20 countries, with a strong European presence and significant participation from the local art scene.

The fair, which combines the heritage of Art Cologne —considered the leading fair for modern and contemporary art— with a new venue in the Mediterranean, attracted over 10,000 visitors and was attended by collectors from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Scandinavia and the United States. The high demand was evident on the closing day, when all available tickets were sold out.

The programme was structured around two distinct areas, which fostered dialogue between galleries, institutions and collectors, as well as continuous interaction throughout the four days of the event. At the same time, the fully booked VIP programme brought together figures from the cultural and social spheres, reinforcing the event’s standing on the international circuit.

In terms of the market, participating galleries reported positive results, particularly in the mid-to-high-end segment, alongside the establishment of new relationships with international collectors. The fair has also helped to strengthen the connection between the Spanish market and other European centres, in a context where cultural destinations are playing an increasingly significant role in the field of collecting.

The project has been developed in collaboration with institutions from the Balearic Islands and local organisations, establishing a model that combines public initiative with international expertise. This approach has helped to strengthen Mallorca’s position as a hub for contemporary art, moving beyond its traditional reputation as a tourist destination.

The organisers have already confirmed that a second edition will take place, scheduled for 1–4 April 2027, with the aim of establishing this new format within the international art calendar and cementing Palma’s presence as a meeting point for galleries and collectors.
