Since its founding in 2007, Disak Studio has redefined interior architecture in Spain with an approach that fuses art, trends and design. Led by Cristina Remírez de Ganuza and Jérôme Le Fouillé, the studio has built a unique identity based on a balance between functionality and aesthetics. The recent participation in Madrid Inside Art & Design (MIAD) together with Cocinas Rio and Natuzzi has further consolidated its avant-garde vision.
Today, in Look The Luxury, we talk to Jérôme Le Fouillé about Disak Studio’s trajectory, its creative philosophy and the projects that have taken its hallmark to new horizons.
Disak Studio has become a key name in Spanish interior design. How has the path from the studio’s beginnings to its consolidation as a prestigious firm been?
Cristina and I met at the IADE school in Madrid in 2002. After studying together, for a couple of years we went our separate ways, each working in different studios in the capital. In 2007 we decided to get together to set up Disak Studio, whose name comes from DISeño AKtual.
We started in Cristina’s flat with 2 laptops, after our first project, the decoration of a French people’s house in the Santo Domingo urbanization, we had the opportunity to set up our first premises in Palermo street, near Arturo Soria, in 2015 our first participation in Casa Decor, was a before and after in our career, it opened the doors to the world of the international client and luxury interior design. We then decided to move to Calle Serrano 20, a symbol of luxury and the main street of the golden mile.
A little over a year ago, we opened a second studio in La Moraleja, in order to be able to attend to all our clients.
In this edition of MIAD, you have worked on the conceptualisation of the Cocinas Rio space. How was the design process for this project and what concept did you want to convey?
We were inspired by a sophisticated rustic space, simulating a house in the mountains, playing with and combining materials such as quartzite, natural wood and chocolate-coloured leather on the drawer fronts and cupboard doors.
The ceiling beams give a rustic style, the wallpaper as a tapestry gives rhythm and colour to the space. The longitudinal and decorative lighting on the island worktop evenly bathes the quartzite of the worktop.
You have also collaborated with Natuzzi, how has it been and what elements would you highlight from this collaboration?
We continue in Natuzzi’s space with the same concept of sophisticated rustic, the contrast of styles is achieved through the materials used such as oak wood on the wall, a large format porcelain floor simulating a terrazzo.
The modern touch is characterised by the design of the Natuzzi furniture, the combination of materials of the chocolate velvet sofa combined with a mink leather chaiselongue in the form of rhombuses.
Finally, the touch of midnight blue colour in the dining chairs allows to give rhythm to the space without breaking the aesthetics.
What would you say is the hallmark of your projects and how do you manage to fuse art, functionality and design in each space?
Our hallmark is a timeless style, we don’t mind following trends, although we always use the latest wallpaper or fabric collections, but always in our own tones (mink, tile, chocolate and black).
What we are looking for is a masculine, New York style, elegant and functional.
What can we expect from Disak Studio in the coming months? Any project that you are particularly excited about and that you can tell us about?
We have a new project in mind in which we are very advanced: we are going to create a luxury home staging department.
We want to stand out from traditional home staging and give an even stronger potential to the properties for sale.
On the other hand, at the interior design project level, we are waiting to close a project on the other side of the ‘pond’, precisely in Cancun.
