Friedman Benda Gallery will participate in the 2025 edition of TEFAF New York with a presentation that brings together historical and contemporary works by artists and designers linked to its trajectory. The exhibition, organised in two spaces within the fairgrounds, will be on view from 9 to 13 May in the Park Avenue Armory.
Among the outstanding pieces is a totem pole by Ettore Sottsass from 1966, part of the designer’s personal collection, available to the public for the first time. Wendell Castle’s Squid Chair with Table (1966) will also be on view for the second time in the United States. The installation also includes John Chamberlain’s Ballantine (1957) and a vertical sculpture by John Mason from 1963, first shown in New York.
On the contemporary side, Joris Laarman’s Voxel Round Table 5mm (2023) from his Digital Matter series will be on view. Also on view will be works by Faye Toogood (Lode II, 2021), and Byung Hoon Choi (afterimage of beginning 024-619 and 024-610, 2024), marking his first public exhibition in New York since 2020.
The installation will also include works by Andrea Branzi, Andile Dyalvane, Najla El Zein, Christopher Le Brun, Raphael Navot, Samuel Ross and Frank Stella.
Friedman Benda, based in New York and Los Angeles, promotes practices linked to contemporary design, craft, architecture and art, and collaborates with designers of different generations and backgrounds.
