Since opening in the spring, El Japonés at the Arc de Triomf has become part of the vibrant atmosphere of Passeig de Sant Joan, offering a casual, dynamic experience closely linked to its surroundings. Located just a minute’s walk from Barcelona’s iconic monument, the restaurant brings the identity of one of Grupo Tragaluz’s most established brands to a space with a more relaxed feel.
The interior combines an open sushi bar, pendant lights and tables designed to foster a lively atmosphere, whilst the terrace opens the restaurant up to the neighbourhood and offers views of the Arc de Triomf. The aesthetic is inspired by Japanese street style and blends seamlessly with a distinctly Barcelonian atmosphere. Every Friday, from 8.00 pm, a DJ set accompanies dinner and adds a musical element to the experience.

The menu features some of El Japonés’ most iconic dishes and is designed for sharing. Highlights include the homemade gyozas, okonomiyaki with bacon, katsuobushi and aonori, yakisoba and kimchi yakimeshi. The menu is rounded off with a selection of nigiri and rolls, including crispy bluefin tuna with avocado and kizami wasabi, spicy bluefin tuna, Mediterranean uramaki with tuna tataki and ponzu, and eel roll with pickled cucumber and tobiko.
The setting also plays an important role in the restaurant’s identity. The Arc de Triomf area combines a local and cosmopolitan character, with a vibrant neighbourhood life that the restaurant seeks to complement naturally. The terrace reinforces this connection with the outside world and is designed to be one of the central spaces of the experience.
El Japonés first opened in 1998 and forms part of Grupo Tragaluz’s history in Barcelona. The Arc de Triomf branch now presents a more urban, informal and street-style version of the original concept, whilst maintaining Japanese cuisine as the main focus of the offering.
