Barceló Hotel Group inaugurates a 5-star resort in the Maldives

The new Barceló Whale Lagoon Maldives is a 5-star resort with 100 luxury villas, 30 of them over the water, and a comprehensive range of facilities to enjoy a dream vacation

Barceló Hotel Group continues its international expansion with the opening of the Barceló Whale Lagoon Maldives, a 5-star resort with 100 luxury villas located on Bodufinolhu Island in the Southern Ari Atoll, about 110 kilometers from Malé, the capital of the Maldives. A natural paradise in the Indian Ocean known for its white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters.

The resort boasts 100 spacious and elegant villas and suites, with 30 of them situated over the water, fully equipped with luxurious details, making it an ideal hotel for a romantic getaway or for those seeking a relaxing vacation. It also features two pools, with a spacious sun terrace where guests can partake in activities like yoga and pilates, or simply enjoy the spectacular sunsets from their lounge chairs.

The culinary offerings of Barceló Whale Lagoon Maldives consist of three restaurants, a snack bar, and three bars. Sea Salt is the main resort restaurant offering buffet breakfasts and dinners with show cooking; Aqua, specializing in Mediterranean fusion, is focused on seafood and fish; Breeze, the poolside restaurant and bar, serves snacks and is also an ideal spot for evening drinks and entertainment; and finally, Magical is a beach club with a lounge area offering cocktails and appetizers near the pool.

This resort is also ideal for well-being and self-care, as it features a magnificent spa with a wide variety of personal care treatments, along with a comprehensive fitness area for those who wish to maintain their exercise routine during their vacation.

A paradise for diving enthusiasts

The Barceló Whale Lagoon Maldives is situated on Bodufinolhu Island, in the South Ari Atoll, adjacent to the South Ari Marine Protected Area (SAMPA), one of the most important places in the world for whale sharks due to their year-round presence. This is why it’s one of the best resorts in the Maldives for diving enthusiasts, as it also features a wide variety of reefs and over 700 species of fish. In fact, the resort has a dive center for practicing diving activities, as well as all sorts of water sports.

Barceló Whale Lagoon is the first hotel of the hotel chain in the Maldives, where it plans to open a new urban hotel in Malé, the capital of the country, in 2024, as well as develop a complex of three 5-star hotels in the North Male Atoll. The management of these hotels stems from the agreement that Barceló Hotel Group signed in 2019 with Browns Investments, a subsidiary of the LOLC Group, one of the most significant business conglomerates in Sri Lanka, and the owners of the establishments. The agreement also includes the management of the two hotels that the hotel chain operates in Sri Lanka: the Occidental Paradise Dambulla, located in the ancient city of Dambulla, one of the most attractive destinations in the central part of the country due to its natural beauty and unique cultural offerings, and the Occidental Eden Beruwala, a 5-star beachfront resort in the tourist town of Beruwala, on the west coast of Sri Lanka.
