Union Suiza joins the nautical elite and sponsors the Varador Sailing Team in the King’s Cup sailing competition

The iconic high-end jewellery and watch brand ventures into the world of sporting events and high-level competition

Union Suiza, the prestigious high-end jewellery and watch brand, has announced its sponsorship of the Varador Sailing Team in the renowned King’s Cup sailing competition, taking place from July 27th to August 3rd in Palma de Mallorca. This collaboration marks Union Suiza’s first foray into high-level sporting events, reflecting its commitment to excellence, innovation, and competitive spirit. The agreement underscores the values of precision and quality that define the company.

Daniel Rossinés, CEO of Union Suiza, expressed, “The decision to support this prestigious sailing event stems from our shared passion for a discipline that combines tradition, technical skill, precision, and team spirit. By sponsoring this boat, we not only join a team that values excellence but also celebrate the spirit of adventure and the constant pursuit of new horizons.”

The Varador Sailing Team consists of fourteen top-level crew members from Catalonia, the Canary Islands, Galicia, and Andalusia, all with extensive experience in the professional racing circuit. The boat’s owner is Elisabeta Quartaroli, while the project is led by Catalan nautical entrepreneur Xiqui Mas and directed by former Olympian Luis Martínez Doreste and sailor Ricardo Terrades. Young Canarian Jorge Martínez Doreste will be at the helm, with navigation and electronics managed by Los Angeles 1984 gold medallist Roberto Molina. Tunte Cantero, also from the Canary Islands and an Olympian in the 470 class, will be the spinnaker trimmer, while Galician Pancho González will trim the jib and Ricardo Terrades will handle the mainsail. The team’s tactician will be Barcelonan Toni Rivas, and the bow team will include Catalans Óscar Bachero, round-the-world sailor Aleix Gelabert, and Gran Canarian Adolfo López on the mast. Cristian Sánchez, current Snipe World Champion from Lanzarote, will control the piano. Jordi Sánchez, also from Catalonia and recent bronze medallist in the F18 World Championship alongside Toni Rivas, will be in charge of the grinder.

The boat, a Botín & Carkeek 46 prototype, has undergone a complete refit at the Varador 2000 facilities in Arenys de Mar, Barcelona. This prototype has proven its competitiveness by securing fifth place in the Conde de Godó Trophy and finishing fourth in the La Reina regatta in Valencia, winning the penultimate race with authority. With new modifications and optimisations, the team continues to improve the vessel to arrive at the King’s Cup in the best possible condition.

Ricardo Terrades, the team’s project manager, has expressed his excitement about participating in the King’s Cup, emphasising that reaching this regatta is already a significant achievement after months of work. He thanks Union Suiza for their support and stresses that while winning is a challenge, the team is motivated to compete with enthusiasm and give their best.

The Varador Sailing Team is supported by several leading brands in their respective segments. Tropicfeel outfits the crew with quick-drying technical footwear made from recycled materials. HSN, specialising in sports nutrition, collaborates to enhance the team’s performance. The Galician canning company Frinsa provides gourmet products, while Bollé offers eye protection with their polarised lenses designed for nautical activities. Hiperdecoració, specialising in the nautical sector through its Venezianni brand, also supports the team.

This collaboration between Union Suiza and the Varador Sailing Team in the King’s Cup sailing competition not only highlights both parties’ commitment to excellence and precision but also celebrates the constant pursuit of new horizons and the competitive spirit that defines both high-level sailing and the luxury brand.
