Dunes of Formentera: The island’s first Eco – Luxury Resort opens its doors on Migjorn Beach

Its rooms and suites are some of the largest in Formentera, up to 60 m2, and all incredibly private

This June, the only Eco – Luxury Resort in Formentera has opened its doors. Dunas de Formentera has brought to the island a secluded and tranquil retreat, which is part of the unique hotel portfolio of Marugal Hotel Management in Spain, France, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. According to Pablo Carrington, CEO of Marugal: “We want Dunas de Formentera to be one of those places where you take off your shoes as soon as you arrive and don’t put them back on until you leave…

Located among the dunes of the 5 km long Migjorn Beach, and featuring only 45 rooms, the elegant interiors of the hotel have been designed by the architecture studio Antonio Obrador. Their portfolio includes other prestigious hotels within Marugal’s collection, such as Cap Rocat in Mallorca, Gecko Beach House & Beach Club also in Formentera, Palacio Solecio in the historic center of Málaga, and Urso Hotel & Spa in Madrid, along with numerous other hotels worldwide.

One of the driving forces behind all Marugal hotels is respect for the environment and the use of existing resources, and Dunas de Formentera will be no exception. Antonio Obrador and his team have worked magic to transform a small hotel into a place designed for today’s traveler.

The spacious rooms and suites, spread across various independent buildings, are connected by paths and walkways through the dunes. They have been designed with the enjoyment of friends and families in mind, with some of the largest rooms on Formentera reaching up to 60 m2. Additionally, Dunas de Formentera offers the option to reserve one of these independent buildings entirely for families and travelers seeking an experience of absolute privacy.

Inside, the hotel perfectly reflects its exterior with a palette of sandy and whitish colors that mirror the sun and natural light. Jute, luxurious bedding, terracotta, stucco, wood, ceramic lattice screens, and continuous flooring provide a sense of uncomplicated intimacy and effortless, authentic escape.

In addition to being steps away from the beach, Dunas de Formentera boasts an infinity pool with stunning views of the sea. In this special retreat, the Mediterranean Sea is always in sight, with the scent of wild juniper floating through the sea breeze…

Mediterranean-inspired cuisine

The restaurant Caliu features a menu where native ingredients from land and sea reign supreme: the freshest fish cooked over fire, simply paired with Mediterranean products that change daily based on the day’s catch and seasonal nuances. Also not to be missed are grilled delights, Neapolitan pizzas, and local “cocas” freshly baked in a wood-fired oven, undoubtedly becoming favorites of the restaurant.
