The CUPRA DarkRebel Showcar will be unveiled at the IAA in Munich, pushing the boundaries of design and performance. Unveiled in April at the CUPRA Exponential Impulse Event in Berlin, the digital model has challenged traditional design processes, with the latest technologies applied to video game development. It has also been a collaborative experience with the CUPRA Tribe, which has influenced the final design of the showcar.
A 100% digital showcar. To develop the new architecture of this electric showcar, the creative phases of the CUPRA DarkRebel have been 100% digital. With the first sketches approved, the visualization design team, led by Manel Garcés, has been key: “We accompanied the designers during the evolution of their sketches. This time the collaboration was even more intense because we wanted to present the model digitally at the Exponential Impulse Event in Berlin, before configuring it collectively with the CUPRA Tribe.”,says Garcés.
From clay to video games.”The CUPRA DarkRebel has been a challenge for the designers. Not having a physical clay model we replaced it with a virtual model and with the visualization tools we were able to elevate our dreams to a higher level, allowing infinite variants and our CUPRA Tribe to have a say”, Garcés explains. For this, the latest technologies in video game engines such as Unreal Engine have been used: “Working as a team with the Exterior, Interior and Color&Trim designers, we have been able to visualize the different options and apply changes in real time”.
270,000 co-creators. The next step has been in the hands of the CUPRA Tribe. Thanks to the immersive Hyper Configurator, created for this purpose, also using Unreal Engine, users have been able to design their own CUPRA DarkRebel Showcar. More than 270,000 online configurations from the CUPRA Tribe have helped shape the brand’s new dream, the final design of which will be unveiled at the IAA. 74% of users have made use of the Hyper Configurator via mobile devices, a clear sign that the CUPRA DarkRebel Showcar is a car designed by and for the new generation.
The CUPRA DarkRebel will be presented to the world on September 3 at the Volkswagen Group Media Night, and at the CUPRA Presentation at the IAA Munich Open Space the following day.
