Vacheron Constantin and the Louvre Museum pay tribute to the art of restoration at Homo Faber 2024. This prestigious event, held from 1st to 30th September at the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice, focuses on contemporary craftsmanship and provides a unique platform to explore the intersection of tradition and perfection.
Since their artistic collaboration began in 2019, Vacheron Constantin and the Louvre Museum have worked tirelessly to preserve and transmit cultural heritage through refined techniques and knowledge. This edition of Homo Faber highlights that dedication by presenting a joint exhibition that celebrates the art of restoration and conservation.
The exhibition offers visitors an immersive experience into the work of master craftsmen from both institutions. The Louvre’s cabinetmakers showcase a mahogany-veneered oak display case, adorned with gilt bronze appliqués, created in 1822 by the renowned cabinetmaker Jacob-Desmalter. This exquisite piece, along with three similar display cases, was used in the Louvre’s Jewellery Room to display gemstones and royal objects, including items belonging to Marie Antoinette.
In parallel, Vacheron Constantin’s watchmakers present the art of watch restoration. Among the highlights are a Lady Kalla jewellery watch from 1985, a pocket watch from 1908, and three historic examples of the American 1921 model, including a unique piece meticulously reproduced in 2021 using period tools and techniques. This complex project perfectly illustrates the Maison’s commitment to its heritage and the transmission of its craftsmanship.
