La Morucha began its journey in 2019 in the quiet Madrid neighbourhood of Montecarmelo. Its first location, at number sixty-four on Avenida del Monasterio de El Escorial, offers an exceptional product-driven cuisine where the grill always plays a prominent role.
The menu at La Morucha features spectacular cuts of meat, sensational fish, and the best seasonal produce. It’s a tempting gastronomic offer that includes options for all tastes, always prepared slowly and with generous amounts of care.
According to its creator, the indefatigable Jaime Jaudenes, La Morucha is “a market and seasonal tavern, with no other pretensions than to offer excellence in the product and respect in its preparation”. It’s honest cooking with simple recipes where quality always takes precedence.
The great reception of its first restaurant in Montecarmelo encouraged its founder to expand within the capital, and in June 2023, a new branch was opened in the Madrid neighbourhood of Salamanca, at number thirty-eight on Calle Castelló.
We visited this latest opening to experience its robust Spanish cuisine, always centred around its iconic grill. A dynamic gastronomic proposal that evolves with the seasonal availability of ingredients and is well worth pairing with its select drinks menu.
On our first visit to La Morucha, we started with an impressive number 2 black pearl oyster, which was a true spectacle. This formidable start was followed by delicious gildas from Santoña, which we enjoyed thoroughly, before succumbing to the charms of smoky grilled artichokes with sweet potato cream, Comté cheese, wagyu cecina, and smoked Castillo de Canena oil. A genuine culinary gem that delighted our palate from the first bite.
We continued with incredible Galician razor clams from Arosa, expertly prepared on the grill. An irresistible bite, leading us to a fun surf-and-turf rice dish, grilled with white prawn, clams, and braised leek, and enhanced with a refreshing citrus mayo. A bold recipe rich in flavours that pleasantly surprised us before moving on to a stunning Charolais beef from the Madrid mountains, served with grilled peppers and homemade fries.
To finish, there’s no better way than to enjoy spoonfuls of their irresistible flan, made with just egg and fresh milk, cooked in a Josper oven.
La Morucha now has two locations in the capital. A pair of inviting destinations that will delight food enthusiasts. Two fantastic meat temples that will undoubtedly please even the most carnivorous palates. Shall we meet soon at La Morucha?
