The history of Spanish decorative arts is given a fresh perspective in Solaz, the collection born out of the collaboration between Alfombras Pe\u00f1a and the interior designer Lorenzo Castillo. The project stems from a professional relationship forged over many years and a shared interest in historical textiles, collecting and, in particular, the tradition of Spanish carpet-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result brings to the present a textile heritage whose main centres of production flourished between the 14th and 17th centuries. Murcia, Alcaraz, Cuenca and Li\u00e9tor were, at that time, centres of particularly renowned craftsmanship, and pieces from these centres now form part of international collections and museums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drawing on documentary and historical research, Alfombras Pe\u00f1a and Lorenzo Castillo have reimagined motifs linked to those carpets, taking their cue from designs of the Spanish Renaissance and the Muslim heritage. The intention, however, is not to produce a literal reproduction of the original models. In this collection, the historical designs are scaled differently, certain motifs are simplified or modified, and colour plays a decisive role. The new colour palette leans towards more natural and luminous shades, designed to blend into contemporary interiors whilst retaining the recognisable character of the pieces that serve as their starting point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collection draws on historical techniques and references without compromising on a contemporary aesthetic. It is an approach in which the value of craftsmanship lies not only in preserving tradition, but also in finding new ways to incorporate these traditions into contemporary spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n
