Your new exhibition in Madrid presents a dialogue between the digital and the tangible, between memory and innovation. How did you conceive the idea of transforming an industrial workshop into this poetic space of memories?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nMadrid has acted as an unexpected catalyst to reconnect with my past. Since I moved here, certain corners of this city have awakened resonances with memories of my childhood in Buenos Aires, particularly with my grandfather Bruno’s workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I didn’t want an aseptic white cube for this exhibition. I needed a space with a life of its own, with smells, sounds and history imprinted in every corner. This workshop in Vallecas has a materiality that dialogues directly with my memories: the tools, the machinery, the winter cold, the industrial aromas that transport me to my grandfather’s auto parts and clutch repair shop.
The idea arose from this dialogue between my present in Madrid and the fragments of memory that I carry with me. The industrial workshop is not simply a container for the works; it is an integral part of the experience, creating that productive tension between the everyday utility of the space and the contemplation proposed by the artistic pieces. I am interested in the contrast between the manual labour that continues to occur and the more ethereal reflections on memory and time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The workshop at work reminds us that memory does not exist in a vacuum, but is always intertwined with practical life, with the continuity of the everyday. It is a way of underlining that my childhood memories occurred in a real working space, not in an idealised scenario.\u2018How did your experience in digital design influence the creation of this physical sculpture? Would you say it is a way of \u2018giving body\u2019 to the intangible?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nThis sculpture reflects the nature of our relationship with memories. First we imagine, we digitally model, we create an idealised version – that’s the digital component. But then we need to materialise it, give it a physical presence that can interact with light, that occupies a tangible space – that’s the traditional silver and nickel workmanship.
The silver branch represents the flowers my grandmother brought to my grandfather’s workshop to illuminate that dark, smoke-filled space. But they are crystallised through my memory and this dual process, making them something that exists simultaneously in both worlds.
Your work has always challenged the boundaries between art and technology. With artificial intelligence and virtual reality expanding the creative landscape, how do you see digital art evolving in the coming years?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nI think we are entering an era where the boundaries between disciplines and media will become increasingly porous. Artificial intelligence and virtual reality are not simply new tools, but are redefining fundamental concepts such as authorship, creativity, experience and presence.
The most promising future of digital art lies not in technological spectacularity, but in its capacity to create new forms of experience, new modes of perception. I see a horizon where works will exist simultaneously in multiple dimensions, where the physical and the digital will not be opposing categories but complementary aspects of the same reality.\nMemory and time are recurring concepts in this exhibition, from the projection of domestic objects to the soundscapes with tangos and radio recordings. What is your personal relationship with nostalgia and how does it influence your work?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nMy relationship with nostalgia is complex. I don’t see it as a simple longing for the past, but as a peculiar state where different temporalities overlap, where past and present coexist in a kind of suspension.
I am particularly interested in that unique sensation of being simultaneously in the present and in another time, as when a scent or a song suddenly transports us to a moment in the past. It is that in-between state, that threshold between temporalities that I try to recreate in my work.In a world where the digital can seem ephemeral, your exhibition vindicates the permanence of memory through materiality. Do you think art has the power to preserve what would otherwise be lost in the constant flow of information?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nArt doesn’t preserve memory in a literal or documentary way, but creates new receptacles for it, new ways of experiencing and sharing it. In that sense, it doesn’t so much preserve the facts of the past as the sensations, the atmospheres, the emotional qualities of the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What interests me is how art can create spaces where time becomes elastic, where different moments can coexist and dialogue. Materiality plays a crucial role in this: a Super 8 projector with its characteristic sound, the heat it generates, the slight vibration of the image; an embroidered fabric that preserves the imperfections of mechanical execution; polished silver that reflects light in a particular way – all these material qualities create an experience that goes beyond information, that appeals to our senses in a direct way.
I don’t see the digital as inherently ephemeral, nor the material as inherently permanent. Both have their own forms of persistence and disappearance. What art can do is create bridges between these different forms of existence, reminding us that our experience of the world is always multisensory, encompassing the tangible as well as the imagined, the present as well as the remembered.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
